How we use our funds

We recently painted the inside of the school in Barrio Fundaores
You can be assured that Fundacion Mariposas Amarillas spends funds efficiently. We cherish all of our supporters and strive to use the valuable resources donors have provided in the most cost effective ways possible. Our costs are kept as low as possible - we don't even have an office - and include electricity and maintenance for our school locations, classroom furniture, and our local director’s modest salary.
Our income derives from 1) volunteers paying a $70 donation when they come to work with us, 2) other donations sent to us from past volunteers or our supporters overseas, and 3) the local fundraising events we hold, such as quiz nights in local hostels.
The organization is furthermore dependent on volunteers donating their time and making physical donations such as books, pens, pencils and other supplies for their classes. We are also attempting to raise enough money via donations to expand our learning and community centre on a piece of land in Fundadores barrio. You can see some photos of the land, along with the latest news on our activities, on our Facebook page.
The organization is registered in Santa Marta, Colombia, as a ‘tax assessable entity with NIT’ (Número de Identificación Tributaria) number 900154941-1. Our financial statement and an audit is conducted every year by H & D Asociados, Asesorias Contables, Tributarias, Financieras y Juridicas (NIT: 12.564.828-5).
